Abstract

A practical and environmentally benign protocol for the synthesis of polysubstituted thiazolo[5,4-e]indoles has been developed. This method employs arylglyoxals, 1,3-benzothiazol-6-amine, and 5,5-dimethylcyclohexane-1,3-dione or cyclohexane-1,3-dione as starting materials. The synthetic approach is metal-free, the reaction conditions are mild, and the product is readily separable.
